Arizona Department of Transportation Program Helps Minority Businesses Grow

View video

Line by line, it’s the intricate detail that Falcon Contracting considers a hallmark of its work.

Even those who have never heard of the company before have likely witnessed its handiwork. If you’ve parked at a Walmart in the Valley, you’ve probably parked in between the company’s lines.

Falcon is one of 1,600 businesses in ADOT’s Disadvantaged Business Enterprise Program, which helps small businesses owned by women or minorities get bigger projects to help their business grow.

The program worked for Falcon’s owner, Nikki Weiss. In one year, business profits jumped 60 percent, allowing for more investment in the company.

The same goes for Alpha Engineering, owned by Steve Gangwal. Since getting involved in ADOT’s program, Gangwal has been able to hire more employees–alleviating some of the pressure of being the little guy.

“Just having to wear so many hats opposed to a larger corporation,” says Gangwal. “They have everything from the greeter at the door to multiple Vice Presidents and everything else in between.”
