Project Name: Queens Public Library (QPL)  – UPD – Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Consulting Services

Project Description: The QPL in New York selected UPD Consulting as the prime contractor for their Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Consulting Service engagement. The QPL is seeking to identify racial barriers in policy, procedure, practice, and history that may have a negative impact on Black employees and customers, and to identify solutions to create a more equitable workplace. They wish to explore, among other things, the Library’s recruiting, hiring and promotion practices, culture, learning and growth opportunities, governance, programs and services, collections, outreach and marketing strategies, and develop a plan for lasting change.

GCAP’s Role: GCAP was selected as a subconsultant by UPD to provide a variety of services to support this engagement including the following:

  • Review existing policies and procedures
  • Provide quantitative data review
  • Measure and forecast diversity metrics in the five focus areas including:
    • Recruitment, hiring, and promotion
    • Learning and growth opportunities (mentorship)
    • Programs and services
    • Collections
    • Marketing and Outreach
  • Support qualitative data review and stakeholder engagement efforts including leadership interviews and focus groups
  • Provide overall project administrative support
