GCAP recently supported San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) in the development, design, and facilitation of the first annual DBE+SB Summit in San Diego, California. The summit took place April 10-11, 2019 and was designed to bring together representatives from transportation agencies across the country that have implemented DBE or SB programs. These representatives were given the opportunity to share their unique practices and lessons learned, collaborate on ways to improve programs, discuss innovative solutions and learn from subject matter experts about industry best practices.
The two-day summit featured a total of 11 workshops which were hosted by federal, state, local and professional industry representatives. Workshops covered such topics as: bench programs, small business set-aside programs, DBE best practices, legal updates related to supplier diversity programs, DBE program administration/oversight on alternative delivery method projects, and more.
The summit also included roundtable discussions which grouped attendees based on their areas of interest to discuss/examine a variety of DBE and SB program areas. Roundtable topics included: small business preference programs, mentor protégé programs, small business goal setting/monitoring and enforcement, DBE program commercial useful function & prompt payment, SB program good faith efforts, and more.
With over 30 federal, state and local agencies in attendance, the summit was a huge success! Attendees from across the nation communicated their appreciation for the event as well as the many benefits and take-aways they had received from the workshops, roundtable discussions and the opportunity to network with their peers.
